Beginners Workshop Series

First and foremost, everyone, a sound congratulations to our newest teacher, Michelle Sine (her toes pictured here at left)! Michelle practiced for nearly 10 years before working toward teacher training. She completed her year-long teacher training intensive program with Lyndsay and Todd, which included a 16-week study of the 1st and 2nd book of the Yoga Sutras, studies on the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, (and of course all that stuff you see us do on the floor at the studio and stuff), the Yogastha Sadhana method and so much more. We are thrilled to welcome her expertise and knowledge to her weekly spot on the schedule — a new class on Sunday mornings at 10am. Join her weekly, and catch her when Lyndsay goes out of town and leaves the secretlotusyoga studio in good hands 🙂

Top Series, which will be instructed by Michelle Sine. A Physical Therapist who knows the body well, Michelle will lead students in four 2-hour sessions through sun salutations, standing poses, beginning arm balances, seated poses and finishing poses including backbends and headstand. After completion of the course, students will have a solid foundation from which to work on the mat on a regular dedicated basis at the studio. Deadline for registration is February 8…so contact Lyndsay asap if you would like to attend: 843-333-2656 (call/text).

Reason why deadline is important? Lyndsay is leaving for Costa Rica on February 9, returning back to the studio on February 21 and she won’t be answering her phone from the jungle 😉 Below is the modified available schedule where Michelle will be subbing many of the classes:

Monday, 2/9: 6:30pm Monday, 2/16: 6:30pm
Tuesday, 2/10: 9am, 11am and 6:30pm Tuesday, 2/17: 6:30pm
Thursday, 2/12: 6:30pm Thursday, 2/19: 6:30pm
Saturday, 2/14: 10am Friday, 2/20: 9am
Sunday, 2/15: 10am Saturday, 2/21: Lyndsay’s back 🙂

Sutra contemplation of the month
Yoga Sutra 1.3: Tada drastu svarupe vasthanam — then, upon the cessation of the mind fluctuations, the Seer abines in its own True Nature.

“Let the Seer See” Meditation

Sit in your stillness and place yourself into the role of the observer. Allow your mind’s eye to see your form in its seat, acknowleding your uniqueness and your outward appearance that you identify with strongly. Now turn inward and look into your eyes as if you were looking in a mirror. Acknowledge here that you are indeed looking at yourself but somehow you see behind both sets of eyes. One of these sets of eyes is your small self, looking through limited lenses without realizing its own limitations. The other set of eyes is that which sees all without needing to see a thing as it is indeed the Seer and the Observer and the Knower of all things. Look through the lens of the Seer.

Absorb yourself into the gaze of the eyes that Know for a moment and repeat silently in your mind, “Let the Seer See.” Create space where you are able to gaze through the eyes of Love.

Work hard while I’m gone. And gaze through the eyes of Love. Pura vida and namaste…

Yoga Socks information 2017

Yoga is a spiritual activity that rejuvenates your body and mind through adaptation of specific body poses and breathing exercises. The first step is to find the perfect yoga courses in Pune that is fit for your requirement! Pepdeck is a search spot for all types of yoga classes in Pune. Find classes for Daily yoga, kid’s yoga, corporate yoga, meditation, yoga therapy and retreats. You may join yoga for weight loss, enjoyment, rejuvenation, fitness or just as a fun activity in you spare time. Nevertheless if you are about to go for your first yoga class here are a few tips for you to be prepared and know how to correctly approach it.

What to wear?

Women should wear tight fitted tops for a more comfortable experience so that when you are in inversion poses your top does not come down over your head. Men can do the same as well. For pants wear quick dry capri or full length fitted pants, this will help your instructor check your alignment. Other than that it also depends upon the type of class you are going for. For example weight loss yoga such as power yoga or hot yoga will require wearing outfits that wick away sweat, similar to what you wear while running whereas for meditation classes in pune you may wear loose t-shirts.

Yoga Gear

The first thing you will need is a yoga mat, you can call in advance and find out if the class provides yoga mats. It’s best to buy your own personal mat once you have attended a few classes. Yoga mats come in all kinds of colours and materials from natural rubber to synthetic, as well as different levels of thickness. Use a sponge to wash your mat with soap and water, and let it air dry. Other props such as steps and balls are provided most yoga studios or gyms. You must also carry a napkin and water bottle to the class.

Class decorum

When to arrive: it’s best to arrive at least 10 minutes early to your first class, so you can meet the instructor and find a spot you feel comfortable in. If you are going to class that is popular, get there 20 minutes in advance.

After you arrive: Take off your shoes and socks before entering the studio. Most studios in Pune have little cubbies or storage cabinets that you can keep your shoes in. Whether you borrow a mat from the studio or bring your own, make sure you unroll it facing the instructor.

Communicate: you may introduce yourself to the instructor before the class starts. Also inform the instructor if you have any injuries, especially a recent one, so he or she can give you modifications.

Practice your basic poses: Yoga classes in Pune have students that like to nail all the poses. If you practice some of the basic poses at home, such as Downward-Facing Dog, Upward-Facing Dog, Warrior 1 and Warrior 2, which are part of any beginner yoga class, you will feel more comfortable when you do come to class.
